Emancipation Day Trinidad and Tobago

On August 1, 1985, Trinidad and Tobago became the first country in the world to declare a national holiday to commemorate the abolition of slavery. 

There will be cultural activities all day at the Village With song, dance, and reverberating drums, Something Positive Inc relayed and cemented its indelible message of human suffering, resolve, victory, and redemption. With refreshments and African influenced delicacies and foods, it was an evening of remembrance and celebration of an ever enduring people. There is a chance to purchase African artefacts, paintings and clothing in the market place, popularly called the Trans-Atlantic Exposition, which attracts traders from Ghana, Tanzania, Nigeria, the Caribbean region and North America.
