Independence Day Zambia
24-24 October
event image
On 24 October 1964, the protectorate gained independence, after a long and difficult struggle against the British, with the new name of Zambia, derived from the Zambezi river which flows through the country.

This is the day when independence was officially granted to Zambia. In 1964 the instruments of independence were signed and Zambia became independent. The function started with a moment’s silence and tribute in honor of late President Levy Mwanawasa. A Fun Fashion Parade with African fabric and designs kicked off the entertainment segment. Most of the models’ attire were provided by Fitting Image Designs of Lusaka. It was wonderful to see African fashion at its best. DJ Zamanga Chulu as usual kept guests on the dance floor with his unique selection. The occasion also marked the start of sales for “I Love ZamCan” polo-shirts, car stickers and caps brought in from Zambia. The function ended in the early hours of Sunday morning. The event provided an opportunity for Zambians and friends of Zambia to connect,  renew friendships or simply share what binds them to Zambia.
