Jamaica: The 155 American Airlines passengers who landed at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James, yesterday when the Boeing 757 they were travelling in developed engine problems were set to be flown out of the country last night.

Flight AA 966, which left Quito, Ecuador, at 10:37 a.m. yesterday, was diverted to the tourism capital when the captain decided to land here as a matter of precaution since there was an abnormality regarding the temperature on the right engine of the aircraft.

The flight was travelling over the Cayman Islands en route to Miami when it reportedly developed the engine problems.

The plane landed without incident and all passengers deplaned normally, even as three fire units stood ready at predetermined positions to deal with any eventualities arising from the emergency landing.

The aircraft was still parked at the Sangster International Airport up to press time last night.
