St Georges Caye Day Belize
10-10 September
event image
On September 10, 1798, British buccaneers defeated the Spanish fighters to win the territory of Belize. In honor of that victory, National Day or St. George’s Caye Day is celebrated every 10th of September.

The historical encounter we refer to today as "the Battle of St. George's Caye" took place in 1798. Traditional events include the Queen of the Bay Pageant, Carnival Parade, St. George's Caye Day Citizens Parade, Expo, Official Independence Day Celebrations, and live musical concerts. This is the time of the year when Belize dresses itself with its patriotic colors: blue, white and red. Lots of punta - local music - and carnival parades, sports contests and official ceremonies were held.
