Marine Day known as 'Ocean Day' or 'Sea Day' is a Japanese national holiday celebrated on the third Monday in July.

Many people take advantage of the holiday and summer weather to take a beach trip. "Marine Day" was declared a national holiday in 1995 as a day of gratitude for the blessings of the oceans and to hope for the economic prosperity of maritime Japan. "National law establishes Marine Day as a day of gratitude for the blessings of the oceans and to hope for the economic prosperity of maritime Japan. As it is a modern secular holiday, there are no traditional ceremonies associated with the day. Exhibitions and charity concerts were part of the festivities. But, serious reflections about marine resources, the maritime environment, and ecological concerns are also part of the thinking that led up to this day.
