Tourist bus hostage in Manila 9 freed

In a shocking incident a bus in the Philippine capital on Monday with 24 passengers is seized by a dismissed policeman armed with an automatic rifle. In the hostages most of them are tourists from Hong Kong. So far only Nine hostages have been released and still there are 16 hostages in his captive. Most of the captives are foreigners. This incident took place today includes the seaside US Embassy and a number of hotels.

The hostage-taker has been identified as a former Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza age 55 which was armed with an M16 rifle. This act of hostage-taker has been done by him in a bid to demand his reinstatement on his police force job, from which he was fired, Manila police chief Rodolfo Magtibay said.

Hong Thai Travel Services Ltd. General Manager Susanna Lau told Hong Kong's Cable TV that the bus was carrying a Hong Kong tour guide and 20 tourists, three children and 17 adults and a local tour guide.

Relief was brought from the police force as they brought food for the hostages and provided fuel to the tourist bus in order to keep the air conditioning unit running as the Manila temperature reached about 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius).

Mendoza board the bus from the historic walled city of Intramuros and when the bus reached Jose Rizal Park alongside Manila Bay he, "declared he is taking the passengers hostage"

Later Philippine police stormed that tourist bus, and local media reported that the hostage-taker, Rolando Mendoza, had been killed.

Local media showed Police entering the bus after a tense and lengthy stakeout. The Red Cross representative said four hostages had survived and TV images showed police removing some bodies from the bus.
